The POWER of Contemplative PRAYER

Are you enjoying silence and contemplation? If so, wonderful, but know you are not alone if you don't. For most people, it is tricky to sit quietly without their minds getting distracted and being pulled in many directions.

And, consequently, it is not uncommon to feel a sense of defeat and draw the wrong conclusion that "I am not good at this."

It takes time to sit in contemplation and tap into what is beyond our thoughts, emotions, and body sensations: our awareness at our soul level.

But here is the great news: the practice does not have to be long or tedious. Sometimes, just a few moments here and there can ease us into the inner chambers of our souls.

The tradition of the Jesus prayer, "Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on me," can be used to do just that: help us get used to silence and facilitate the process of becoming one with God.

On today's podcast, I discuss the power of stillness and contemplative prayer with my guest, Jennifer Anna Rich, among other amazing topics.

Jennifer Anna Rich is an author, scriptorium book artist, and urban farmer.  She holds a master’s degree in Theology and has been a lifelong student of contemplative prayer.

She leads Christian prayer retreats and pilgrimages with a deep desire to help others in their prayer lives.

She is the author of "Prayer Spa: Ancient Treatments for the Modern Soul" and "The Little Way of a Pilgrim."

From this discussion, you'll learn about:

✨ How practicing stillness and silence, even if our thoughts are racing, can teach us how to be closer to God.

✨ Contemplative awareness of prayer and stillness allows us to find inner peace even in the constant business.

✨ Discovering those silent and still moments can help others to do the same.

✨ Using Jesus' Prayer can help ground us in moments when we need it, but also feel like we aren't making enough time for Christ.

And what is her favorite bible verse? It is: "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hiddenMathew 5:14
